We have the experience in installing and commissioning all sizes of network cabling projects

Structured cabling

Structured cabling provides a dedicated high data bandwidth cable for each individual network device.

The main types of business cabling are Category 5e, CAT 6 and fibre.  The main difference between the levels of structured cabling is the bandwidth (the amount of data that can be passed through the cable).

CAT 6 cabling will provide guaranteed gigabit connectivity, but is more expensive than CAT 5 and has more stringent installation rules. Fibre can be used as a higher bandwidth backbone for larger businesses, as it can be run over longer distances.

Network design considerations

It is always better to install more cable than you think you will need, as it will be much more difficult and costly to install more at a later date.

Think about where you will put desks, your projected workforce growth and how many devices each person will need for each location (node). The official recommendation is to have four points per node for a PC, printer, phone and a spare.

Running a phone system

You can easily run your VoIP phone system through the network cables. This is a flexible solution as it is very easy to add and move phones and extension numbers.

What does it cost?

We can price based either on a fixed cost for the points required or on a cost per point basis. Our prices include: cable, patch lead, fly lead, wall box, plug in modules and labour.

The cost per point basis will be more economical once you are installing 50 points or more. Our price per point is around £40, but this will come down the larger the number of points, reducing to around £20 per point for 1,000 points.

Factors that will affect the price include:

  • Ease of access to the building
  • Ease of installation into the wall, ceiling or floor – for example, a listed building will pose more installation challenges than a new-build

If you have an electrician laying electrical cables, they can lay the network cables at the same time, and we can do the final termination and testing.
